Today began my time with the Artist Access program at Woodhull, reading to 12 year olds in the Pediatric wing, and my first time seeing Keith Haring's murals (painted in 1986 - seen in action above) for it. They're real fantastic, uplifting. The vibe in the 'play room' is incredible. Everyone wants to draw. Everyone is excited. I asked a 6-year old who was waiting for his mom, 'What do you want to be when you grow up.' He told me, 'I want to be a painter.' I asked what he wanted to paint, and he said 'hot dogs.' Look out for those.
If you're unfamiliar with Artist Access, read this, or call Amy Duquette, a modern day saint --- 718-630-3069. (Basic gist - barter art or time in exchange for health care). It's real, and it works.
